Hobbycraft and Creative Stitches

Today my wonderful daughter and I had a Day Out to the SECC in Glasgow to the Hobbycraft and Creative Stitches show.

We managed to restrain ourselves and only buy a few (teensy weensy, quite cheap and really essential, honest) things to make and do, but the absolute knock-out star of the show was the exhibition of quilting.

There were award winning exhibits from the Quilters Guild competition, and lots of inspiring art quilts. The stunning centre-piece was provided by The Quilt Quine, who displayed a full size yurt covered in quilted panels and a quilted coracle with wonderful pillars around it. My photos were taken on my phone, so they're not of the best, but I hope you can get a flavour of the fabulousness.

Kuksa Cup This lovely little object is a Kuksa Cup. These are traditional Scandinavian drinking cups, and the first time we encountered them was after an exhilarating husky sled drive when we were on holiday in Norway a couple of years ago. The lovely people in charge had a fire going with a big cauldron of strong black coffee brewing on it and these beat-up and blackened wooden cups to drink it from. Then last year, when we were in the splendidly crafty community of Nethy Bridge we came across a chap called WoodenTom and he had one of these Kuksa Cups...

Finished! Helloooo! I've finished the cottage garden ripple blanket! Look at those pretty colours cheering up our bed. You can see Maisie is impressed, too - or maybe she's just wondering what's going on. It's actually a single-bed sized blanket and our bed is a large double, so I'll probably use the blanket lengthways across the foot of the bed more for decoration than any thing else, but I am toying with the idea of getting another ball of a couple of the colours and increasing the rows of edging, just to make it a weeny bit bigger so it's more...
